Laura Williamson, registered at Boston Lincolnshire. Owned by Thomas Williamson. Built at Southwick in 1867.

Bit late for slaves.

But this may interest you - a mention in the RNLI journal in 1906. https://rnliarchive.blob.core.windows.net/media/1233/0222.pdf - page 847 starting at EASTBOURNE, SUSSEX.
EASTBOURNE, SUSSEX.—In very wet and cold weather the Life-boat James Stevens No. 6 was engaged during the whole of the 18th March in assisting to save a vessel which had run on to a reef of rocks under Beachy Head. At 7.30 A.M. the vessel was sighted, and within a quarter of an hour of the time the information reached the Coxswain, the Life-boat was on her way to the vessel. She proved to be the schooner Laura Williamson, of Boston, bound from Redbridge to Newcastle with a cargo of scrap iron, and had run ashore in the fog. Just before reaching the schooner the Life-boat met the ship's boat with the crew of four, making for Eastbourne to obtain assistance. The James Stevens No. 6 took them on board and proceeded to the wreck. Every effort was made to try and float the vessel, whilst the pumps were kept hard at work, but without success. The Life- boat in the meantime stood by ready to render assistance, and after a time the crew, fearing the mast would go by the board, desired to leave the schooner ; the Life-boat therefore took them off. Later a further attempt was made, and by the united efforts of the crew, the Life-boat- men and a tug, the schooner was pulled clear, and accompanied by the Life-boat, taken to Newhaven. Newhaven was reached about 6 P.M., and after food and rest the James Stevens No. 6 started for Eastbourne, the crew reaching home at midnight quite exhausted, after a very heavy day's work under trying conditions

Bit more info from the 1868 Lloyds Register of Shipping

https://archive.org/details/HECROS1868/page/n489/mode/2up - page 490 of pdf

Weight 89 tons
Length 73 feet 7 inches
Breadth 20 feet 5 inches
Depth 10 feet 4 inches

Built by Pekrsgll & Co Sunderland although "Pekrsgll" may be an abbreviation.

No idea if she would still exist. Following by name only rather than a build number is hard once a boat gets sold and renamed.

Or finding the remains of that ship. He had many as far as I know. That one named after his wife presumably.

My ancestors were part of the early Australian slave trade in the 1820's. As convicts they were exported for life for stealing to stay alive. They were the 'lucky' ones. Just what the new colony needed. Many never made it as the dozens of wrecks along the SE Coast of Australia can attest. No rescue boats back then. Working in chains building roads at times they were eventually assigned to wealthy settlers. And thanks to them I exist :D

Great Expectations by Charles Dickens was about an exported aussie convict who was under the death penalty if he ever returned to England.

I wasnt sure so I googled it. You were right, it's in my DNA.

Original sin is the Christian doctrine that humans inherit a tainted nature and a proclivity to sin through the fact of birth.
