Posted: 22 Jul 2012, 18:23After being told I do not qualify for nhs powerchair as I can self propel indoors and that is their only concern and seeing their offerings no bad thing .
So argued and won a lightweight custom manual which works for me as means can least pretend to keep fit
Since I do not have the expertise of done of you on here I went hunting around at chairs with my primary aim that it needs to have range , and ability to handle outdoor lifestyle as we need to camp also cope with hills as town is very hilly
Also wanted be able to take into shops and not worry about Kerbs to much either
So have had the optimus for 5 months now I had larger batteries put in and went for the 15kmh option . Chair back has manual recline
The good things
It does have a good range on it and I drive it fast 90% of the time and in hilly town and I have got 30 miles before I'm heading into orange
Copes with hills without much loss of speed ( Edinburgh castle hill at 12kmh with my son on my lap and I'm no lightweight )
Kerb ability both down and up is good am not worrying about getting stuck on small edges .
It does handle lots of different terrain good love bombing around woods and dirt tracks
Headlights are handy of a evening
I like the speed of it I'm not worrying crossing the roads
I can manueve it around bigger shops ok and take on trains and buses latter needs pratice and truth I don't take on many buses and anything under 4/5 miles each way I do in the chair Bus is a last resort to be honest as it's not good but saying that it is within the legal limits sizes for London buses
It does not seem to mind splashing through puddles
I no longer worry about gravel or cobble as takes in stride
Down sides
It is a big chair and takes up room to store
It is not ideal indoors it can be done but you need learn how to reverse And turning around on the old trains between carriages is a no so you need be confident in your reversing skill
Turning circle is not good and infact I often reverse into tighter corners as easier to steer in
When it is heavily laiden with stuff on the rear area it has a tendency to drift so you need to be aware and correct for .
The controller is bit of a pita at first as it takes longer to react than I would like
The footplates are not yo bad but I think if you had very long legs that you may end up with not Beeing able to make ling enough them enough
The 15kmh I suspect is on the flat with a 9 stone nothin on board but 12kmh up hill is respectable enough
Overall if your looking for a indoor /outdoor chair then I would say it's not for you
It is mainly a outdoor chair and it handles terrain pretty good
Once you get used to how it handles then it's not bad at all and right now is the best Comprimise .

i have 50ah litío and 20ish kms...so about the same...i was expecting + range after took 35kgs to the chair in lead !!
