I have the chance to buy a: Invacare Ranger Xwith 4-pole motor and 90 amp MKV A Controller for around $400 US. It needs batteries, group 2 I believe the current owner said.

My question is: Is it a good deal for the price? I want to use this chair mostly ouside in Durham, North Carolina,USA where I live. Thanks in advance.

I would...they are a competent chair.
Front casters are a bit small, suspension works as good as any swingarm. Would work better if the 'shocks' were replaced with MTB? properly adjustable ones.
Frame behind the wheels limits fat wheel conversion.

Computers used to be able to spell...and phones are getting in on the typo act too these days...where will it leave studnets and sexrateries ect who rely on their technology to perform!

Great, I might go for it provided the price is right. BTW you misspelled sexrateries. Oh I see, you did that on purpose, nevermind.

Don't care for the "snow blower" tires, but seller says they will fit on a Ranger X with room to spare.

But that turns it from an indoor usable 25.5 to a non indoor usable 30 inches wide...

The same reason I turned the batteries north/south, and moved motors inboard etc on my BM2/3 chairs. You will find that too wide for general use. Ask me how I know :)

the Ranger has decent motors and speed but there is one major problem.
the front casters are so close together there is no room for your feet
this means that your feet have go in front of the casters and this results in a chair that is front heavy
(look at the chair on ebay above)
if you can raise your feet above the casters then you could move the seat towards the rear to balance more weight on the rear tires.
with the Ranger it is easy to have a chair with the center of gravity over the rear wheels - except for where do your put your feet?

You do realize that he was only advertizing the wheels and tires, not the chair.

I have a Torque SP with Solid tires all around and rubber element shocks.

Does anyone have any recommendations for reasonably priced shocks?

I have a set off an older arrow and was told that they wont fit without modification to the frame.

don't know all of your circumstances - but one of the biggest improvements you can make to a rear wheel drive is replace the solid tires with tubes

I am sitting in a 2003 Ranger-X. Very good chair given it's design. Is a little front heavy. I have NEW Q6000Z, PARKED. I am going to sell it, and I wouldn't buy anotherone. Going back to RWD. Need t o look at Permobil, or build a BM3 replica. It looks like the perfect chair, especially if I could add power recline and power center foot/leg rest/lift.
