controller issue

First of all, let me say, BM, this site is GREAT!

Thank you for setting this whole thing up...I will be directing other power chair users to this site as well!

Now, on to my issue:

Can anyone help me with a joystick/controller issue on my Jazzy HD? :?

I was cooking last night..and when I went to move back from the stove, I looked down at the joystick controller, and there were some LED's on..nothing was flashing..and the light that shows the joystick/controller is now in attendant mode is on. You could hear a clicking noise when you push the on/off button. :(

That was last night..today, the joystick module won't even light up. You just get one LED that gives a quick blip in the middle of the led curve bar, and thats it..and you don't hear anything clicking when the on/off switch is pushed.

The joystick module did NOT get wet...nor overheated...and I did not hit it while doing anything at the stove. Any suggestions? Help? Experience with this? :)

I am looking through my paperwork today, because this unit was replaced last May; and I have to contact my insurance company as well to see who I can contact in my area to get a replacement; the company that sold me the chair was...wait for it..The Scooter Store..yep, the one that went bankrupt last year...so this unit suddenly up and doing this is a real issue for me. :?

I have already looked on line for replacements; the cheapest I found was on Ebay...that would be an out of pocket expense for me that I can't cover right now...but I need the chair..its not an either/or issue. :|

Oh..and where are the fuse(s) at on this chair? It might be the fuse...my husband wants to know so he can take a look at it. :)

I have also looked for any troubleshooting information available..and I am only coming up with what is already in the owner's manual...if someone can direct me towards a site that has advanced trouble shooting for the Shark dynamic controllers, I would be very appreciative. :D

Thanks for taking a look, folks! :)

Hi

This might help for starters:
http://www.couldnaecare.com/dynamicfault.html

http://www.dynamiccontrols.com/downloads/cat_view/33-shark

Fuses should be on the battery line, check there first.

Fuses: Not sure if its the same on yours:

It must have either a number or name, not just an HD, there are a few.

Hope it helps.

May be a breaker or breaker fault, or fuse, or loose battery connection. Fuse may be in battery loom.

Hi Kimhuse. Welcome to the forum. Could you please go to User Control Panel and record your location? It will help us give you more relevant information.
Question too: which version of the Jazzy HD do you have? Eg, 614, Elite... UK? US?
Do you know which version of the Shark controller you have? I've been looking for a technical manual for you, but there seem to be multiple versions of the Shark controller. I hoped the info on the Jazzy HD might give me a clue which controller you have, but there seem to be multiple versions of the Jazzy HD too.
Thanks.
Falco

I think this might be the manual you need. The DIAGNOSTICS section of it has the explanation for the flash codes which I would expect to be the same for all Dynamic controllers, even if this particular one is not yours. (Though it seems to be the only controller manual on the website anyway.)
http://www.dynamiccontrols.com/download ... ion-manual

You just get one LED that gives a quick blip in the middle of the led curve bar, and thats it

In theory, that one LED giving a quick blip should be giving you a fixed number of quick blips, then pausing briefly before giving you the same number of quick blips again. You need to count the number of quick blips between each pause and check the manual for what that number of quick blips indicates.

If you had access to a Dynamics controller programmer, either PC based or standalone hand-held, it would be capable of accessing the error logs and may give you information that is a little more informative.

If you can come back and tell us how many quick blips (ie, flashes) the LED gives you between pauses, someone here may be able to help further.

I had a somewhat similar occurrance on an 1170 model.

When the on button was pushed the lights flashed once and everything was dead.

It took a while to trace and find that a wire that terminated in the charge system inhibit had become loose. This was completely within the plug itself and was a crimp connection.

I tried to determine using that print that Woody offerred just where that is located, but I do not know from you if that print is the duplicate of yours. it is a part of the electronic tray (so called). B19 HARUSHD2080 ELECTRONIC,HARNESS,3 PIN,RUN PLUG,FEMALE,H-1200-071 Page 27
Now It has been quite a while since I did this repair and do not recall if I soldered it or not, it is likely "not", just recrimped. But it is still working fine. This single strand wire is the size of a home telephone land line connection. (often called bell wire) Tiny and will easily become brittle if wiggled too much, or heated too much. I hope this helps you and good luck.

I also meant to mention, mine was the center wire, But that may not matter either the neutral or ground wire I believe will give you the same indicators. And at any connection point in that charge system, as well as in the continuity of those three wires. Again good luck.

My 1100 had a problem with the fuse-HOLDER that was even more subtle - the cheap nylon that the holder was made of melted and flowed just enough to push the fuse away from the contact on one end... Not visible, and the fuse measured good, and each contact in the holder to the next contact point measured good, but end to end through the holder was open.... :?

Another important thing to note is that at least on the 1100, and I think many of the other chairs that used the same Pride sealed epoxy brick on-board charger is that the inhibit circuit works OPPOSITE the way the XLR external charger circuit plug works :!:

On the external XLR plug the inhibit pin is open on the chair and tied to one rail (ground IIRC) in the charger plug so that the chair pin gets pulled to the rail when the charger is plugged in, inhibiting the chair.

In the on-board system, the wire that carries the inhibit signal is tied to the rail NORMALLY - with apparently a relay or other device inside the epoxy block that OPENS the circuit when the charger is plugged in. If the brick dies, the inhibit doesn't open and the chair locks up with a charger connected error flash on the controller...

Hey, everyone! I want ti thank you all fo the help on this issue! I ended up going to a local scooter repair place and they replaced the controller for me. My insurance covered it.

I WILL keep all this info handy, and if it happens again, I will be sure to look at all of this before taking it back to them; it will save me the labor charges! :)

Bless every single one of you who replied!
