Quickie P-222 tires

Postby CebuonWheels » 06 Oct 2010, 18:02

I am looking to upgrade my tires on a Quickie P-222. I am interested in going black/tubeless as it makes sense if I can find what I need.

Currently;
Front - 8”H(200mm) by 2”W(5omm) spring dampened forks.
Rear - 12”H(310mm) by 4”W(100mm)

Wish;
Front - black 9-10”H(250mm) by 3”W(75mm)tubeless/ribbed (3.00 x 4 which are 9.5 OD)
Rear - black 12”H(310mm) by 4”W(100mm) tubeless/knobby (145/70 - 6)

I have looked at eBay with no luck, yet. I was curious if anyone found a good online dealer that has a good tire/rim packages?

The only way to go tubeless, which is an excellent idea by the way as you can all but forget about punctures, is to fit tubeless wheels. You cant usually fit tubeless tyres to powerchair wheels. At which point your tyre sizes need to be whatever the wheel dictates, and about the same overall diameter.

Your current sizes dont actually tell us what size rims you have.

The 145/70 - 6 tyres (all terrain) that I use are actually 6 inches wide... Thats a foot of rubber in total on a 2 foot wide vehicle. So fitting those means either a really wide and unusable wheelchair or serious modifications to move motors inboard etc. They are on ebay for 49 pounds including a wheel for a pair at times. Fitting 3.50 x 8 tyres can be done easily. Even on existing rims although they will be pinched slightly and will not be tubeless.

Theres 3.00 x 4 (3 wide and 9.5 diameter) tyres on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Tyre-3-00-4-petro ... 4cf22dfa00

There are few right now but usually loads.

I used to buy 8 at a time with tubes for 40 uk pounds... And tubeless tyres in 3.50 x 8 on http://www.monkeybike.co.uk including tubeless. http://www.monkeybike.co.uk/acatalog/3. ... _Tyre.html not cheap though...

Thx for the info. I will look into your thoughts as soon as I can or m y kids grow up. lol

I do think going tubeless makes sense enough to put the time and effort in. My p-222 is good enough for 99% of what I need as I have gone into the Austrian Alps and drove through the back woods and hills of the PI. ?but my front tires need to be bigger. My rear tires I cant go any wider as my home configuration will not allow. I dont have the time to tear apart my e-WC so I will see what I can do.

Thx for your time.

410 x 350 x 6 is ?

145/70 - 6 is 145mm center hub diameter with a 70mm tire rubber thicknes and 6" wide?

No 145 is a nominal METRIC section tyre width. But its nominal...
The ones I have here measure about 148mm actually so thats as near as dammit 6 inches. Some are a bit less some more.

The 70 refers to aspect ratio as a percentage. So a 145/70 has a sidewall height that is 70 percent of 145mm.
The "6" refers to the rim diameter in inches. All wheels are in inches...

Total diameter would be 70 percent of 145mm x2 plus 6inches rim size...

These rims are also 4.5 to 5 inches wide.

The metric tyres on my van for EG are 245/50 - 18

Imperial tyres and this is most mobility tyres are all in inches. So the front casters or stock rear tyres are either 2.00 or 2.80 or 3.00 or 3.50 wide. in inches...
So 3.50 x 8 tyre is 3 and a half inches wide, and fits an 8 inch diameter rim.

________________________

3.00 x 4 is 3" wide by 9" diameter? Depends on make. But about 9.5 usually.
3.50 x 8 is 3.5" wide ? by ?? 3.5 + 8 inches rim + 3.5 = 15 (but actually measures about 14.5)
410 x 350 x 6 is ? 4.1 inches wide, 3.5 inches sidewall, 6 inch rim diameter. So 13 inches or a little less in reality.

When someone says they want a 10 x 3 tyre its meaningless... They really mean they want a 3.00 x something that is 10 inches overall. Bet without knowing the rim size it says little.

So, let me see if I understand.

To replace a 12” x 3” Rear tire, I need a 400x300x6 (4” wide x 3” side wall x 6” rim diameter) = 12” high by 4” wide?
To replace a 9”x3” Front tire , I need a 300x225x4 (3” wide x 3” side wall x 4” rim diameter) = 10” high by 3” wide?

Finally, over the weekend I found the time to properly find to do a search and find the tires that I need. Wew!

I also found a nifty little definition an d jpg file explaining tire sizes.

TIRE SIZES
1: If an "x" separates the 1st set of numbers, the 1st number is the outside diameter on all scooter tires and the 2nd number is the overall width. If a third number is used, that number represents the inside tire diameter, or the outside diameter of the rim.

2: If a "/" separates the 1st set of numbers, the 1st number is the overall width of the tire and the 2nd number identifies the section height. This is the measurement from the crown to the bead of the tire. The last number is the rim diameter. The overall diameter of the tire is D + D + C. For example, a 4.10/3.50-4 tire's overall diameter is 11" (3.5 + 3.5 + 4). Some sizes omit the tire width measurement completely, such as a 3.00-4 tire. In this example, the "3.00" is the measure of the section height and the "4" is the rim diameter, or the inside diameter of the tire.
