The correct file name was still on the file. I ADDED a .ZIP that you likely cannot see because you have your PC in dummy mode which hides the file extentions.

I called it: filename.PS8.ZIP
After you remove the .ZIP it will read filename.PS8

This programmer, what does he program? Obviously not computers! :clap

2 volt low means that its 1.6V when the other cells are 3.6V. Thats impossible. The PL8 would give an error, and charge wouldnt end. I have no idea what you are doing. Or looking at. Did the charge end?

Post a screenshot next charge, of the cell voltages.

Hi BM

Tom is a very good programmer and he opened your file, but like most programmers didn't show me how he did it. He didn't save it in the Library in the software or store it in the PL8 presets. I'll take another look at your presets file in "properties" and see how the file is currently named, then I'll be able to work out how to rename it.

Yes the charge ended with a series of beeps. It showed a pack voltage of 28,64v. I knew that this was effectively a nominal value and expected it to drop, as soon as I put it into service. It did in fact drop to around 26.5v. I took the EV Rover out on 7 km jaunt , but now I know that cell 4 is very weak, I want to strip it down and repair or completely replace the cell.

Thanks for your help

cheers

Of its 0.2V out, then its either massively out of balance, or you have a wiring or connection problem or a cell problem.
If its really 2.0V out then I dont know what to say!

That woz funny BM

You need to take the computer out of dummy mode. As it is its configured for a grandma. It is not showing you file extentions. Tell it to show all file extensions. Then do as I said, and remove the .zip from the end. Seems that most people are incompatible with technology.

what you need to do to see the file extensions is

on your desktop - open a window - where you see your hard drives etc,

on top there - there is View -

click View - on the right side you see File name extensions - check that box and thats it close it

now you will see the file extensions that you dont see now -

you can then remove the .Zip from the File BM sent you - just remove .Zip on the end - it should then have .PS8 only at the end - you will be able to see it only after you check the box for file name extensions -

do that first

HERE is the box. Untick oR tick the boxes so it looks like mine here. Then apply to ALL FOLDERS...

You say your freind is a programmer? :ak47

And what are you trying to open it WITH? Only ONE program will understand that file and its the PL8 software. Stop clicking on it!!!

Hi

You guys are so unbelievably helpful. Thank you so much. The graph plots looked a lot more unified during today's charge. I took the EV rover out today. It is going better than it's ever done on this little abused LiFe pack. It's so much better with the PL8 involved and the BMS in the bin.

cheers

Hi Guys

I really don't care what people on forums say about me and my abilities or lack of abilities, but when it comes to the highly competent programmers who help me out, I do feel honour bound to defend them against unjust comments written about them on this forum or anywhere else, That's only being fair and decent. Isn't it? So if anyone who reads this is guilty of such unjust commentary, kindly read what follows. (Its an email from one of my programmers):

This is a hardware export from the the PowerLab 8v2 battery charger. The way to use it is to import the file .. the following link explains how to do that on page 50 of the pdf. I suggest you export the current presets before importing the one you have been given, then if anything goes wrong you can simply import your original setup back again.

The contents of the attached 'BM-Presets.PS8' file are plain text and not user editable as the hardware expects to read the data in a prescribed format, but I have copied and pasted it below for you to see what it actually consists of,

If you open that file I sent, in any text program, like notepad thats exactly what you see. Or rename it .txt for e.g. Anyone can do that. I have done it and am about as far from a programmer as you can get. And note the date. I created it.

More importantly have you used the PL8, and imported that preset yet? And sent it to the charger? Because thats what you are trying to do! Because otherwise you will ruin those cells and potentially cause a fire. The last time you posted data showed that you had charged them as lithium ion or lithium polymer (lipo) cells! That means you charged them to 4.200 volts per cell, instead of 3.600V per cell. If that LiFePO4 chemistry had not been as safe as it is, you would have had a very vigourous fire. Not to mention you likely took 1/3rd of the life from the battery in one go.

The reason the "fuel" read as 18 percent is that after the charge at 4.2V per cell the charger was expecting to see about 29V. Your over voltage charged LiFePO4 voltage dropped down to its normal full voltage, which is MUCH LOWER than LiPo are. So the charger thought they were 18%...

I am actually amazed the pack still works at all. But best not try that again! banghead

At a guess in light of not enough info, the green cell is full, the lowest cell is nowhere near full, and the gap between the two is large so the pl8 has seen a problem and reduced charge to .5A for safety reasons. So you using a stock preset! They wont work.

Question. Is this the preset I sent you?? If not then there is your problem!

I did not send it for fun. There ARE NO stock presets that will work properly.

There are no stock presets that you can adjust or configure to the correct settings.
The preset I sent you has many hidden settings that you cannot access or see that prevent exactly that problem you have now, from ever happening.
Along with a bunch of other important things that will correctly charge your pack and terminate it correctly... Use the preset I sent you and it will work.

But it seems you are not listening!!! So feel free to ruin your cells! :fencing

BM_Presets-08-02-0.jpg
Hi BM

It is now evident. My attempt to install your preset file failed. These are the steps I followed:

>I downloaded your presets, the destination folder was Downloads.
>I copied and pasted it to my desktop.
>I renamed it "BM_Presets.PS8" and then imported it into the stock presets via the FMA sofware UI (I noticed when I did that that it appeared, NOT with the name BM_Presets, but with the stock preset name of: "Generic High Power".

So DUH ! I have been using the wrong preset.

What am I doing wrongly for this upload operation to fail? :worship

God knows...

You said all the right stuff, but did something different in reality. Try again. Make sure you see the correct file name. Put in in position 1.

Then you will see the file name that I gave it in position one. You did sort out your computer and you DID remove the .zip from the file name, right? If not then we are going in circles.

If he is driving the charger from the PC as he should be, then it will not allow you to start the charger unless you choose UPDATE.

Before you do ANYTHING else do THIS!!! viewtopic.php?f=6&t=8587&p=132579#p132474

Then look at the file name. What is the last 3 letters. Then try to upload it here, and if it allows you it still has .ZIP on the end.,

Read the post above.
I suspect your computer is still in unusable dummy mode. And you cannot see that the file still has .ZIP on the end. And so you will never make this work. But you dont seem do hear me. :x

Start at the begining instead of going off on your own thing again! You are making a really simple thing complicated because you are not listening.

Com setting has no affect on what you are currently doing, and lock preset is also not related. Those things are not your issue.

Send me a screenshot of THIS for whatever folder your file is in. Desktop?:

Dont re-name the file. Try just uploading it to here. As an attachment. and tell me what happens. ASAP...

It is associated with Winrar because it has a .zip at the end of the filename that you cannot see. Why else would a .PS8 file be associated with winrar? I think.

Hi BM

The FMA software is not performing simple functions like uploading preset .PLS files, niether is it saving the what it is saying has been uploaded in this case to line 24 in the presets. Perhaps this version of the FMA SW, is not compatible with Win 7 ??

Its something you are doing. Its compatible with every version of windows from windows XP 32 and 64 bit upwards.

Not sure what you mean by uploading or downloading... Its all on your computer.

Upload that preset file that is on your desktop to here, as per post above. Can we start at the beginning?
1. Because first I need to see that the .zip has been removed.
2. Then, I need to make sure you are loading the preset correctly. Next...

Connect the PL8 and be sure its all powered up.
Then, open the PL8 SOFTWARE. and be sure that the COMM PORT SELECTION is AUTO.
It will load the PL8 presets and say ready at the top.

Now, REMOVE the .zip part from the end of that file you downloaded in windows.
And then it will read LiFe use this.PS8

Then, in the PL8 software select the first slot top-left, already used -- the no 1 preset. So its highlighted grey?
Then go to the FILE menu at the top and choose OPEN FILE TO PRESET 1
Then NAVIGATE to your download folder where the LiFe use this.PS8 is waiting... And select it.

It will now be visible in position 1 in the software.
Now, at the bottom, it will say UPDATE and you should.

It is now loaded in position 1 on your charger ready to go.
