Turns out the main board gave up on me. It was only a cheap refurbished Dell desktop so I've acquired another one and will try again from scratch.

Office 365 has nothing to do with that vrsion of office. 365 is a paid subscription cloud based rip off. Presumably you already had that nonsense preinstalled. It needs uninstalling!

Then only use proper office!
On your computer, no microsoft account needed.

You must go through windows and uninstall all the nonsense.
