windows/rent dongle help

Postby rover220 » 15 Apr 2026, 08:41

wonder if some clever folks can help, i have exhausted my windows knowledge and am stuck

windows 11 laptop, rnet dongle has been working fine, went to use this week and windows no longer sees it. when i connect the dongle i get the bing bong noise and the green usb light on dongle illuminates briefly then goes out. if i disconnect the dongle i get the bong bing noise so its like the laptop knows it is there but isn't working. the dongle does not appear or disappear from the usb list in device manager either.

any help?

Are you using the win 11 driver?
10 one can work but may be problematic.

Turn on chair obviously.

In Device Manager from the menu at the top choose Show Hidden Devices.
Then right click EVERY greyed out item in the list as you go down and choose delete.

Reboot.

Open device manager and watch as you plug in the dongle.

If it still doesent appear then you have either a faulty USB port on the laptop (try another laptop). No driver installed. or bad USB cable (very common!) or a bad dongle. :o

Plan on throwing it away? If you want, post me it so I can take a look/test it.

Might be something simple. Like bad USB connector or something visible on the board. Fixed a laptop board the other day with a crack in a soldered memory module. Impossible to even see it without blowing up a macro photo huge.

Could it be the latest patch Tuesday causing USB issues? It seems strange it would die just like that! czy
