Auto Climate Control, 2006 Chrysler Grand Voyager, 2.8 CRD.
Now I like my auto climate control, but what I don’t like is the temp gauge showing normal, and the auxiliary heater light still on, burning my precious diesel unnecessarily. Or if I’ve returned home, and the heater is still on, as it has up to 5 min overrun before it switches off. When it does that, I have to leave the garage open.
Can anyone explain the reasoning why it just doesn’t turn off when the key is turned or when the heater is switched off? Why the timed overrun? I mean it’s not as though it’s like a turbo and you need the oil to cool the bearings… or is it?
Also is there a modification that can be done so that it will switch off when the key is turned, or better still install a separate switch so that I have control. I’ve been all through my handbook and found zilch to control it. All it says is ‘…best to leave on auto so that the vehicle controls it for you…’ Aye that might be ok at 3p a gallon but at £6 odd?? Anyway, I’d like to switch the auxiliary heater off and rely on normal engine heat when I’m sufficiently warm or when the eng temp is sufficiently warm to cope with my demands.
any clues welcome.
