Check that the correct driver is actually loaded, in device dam=ager. Usually not. And check ALL com ports and USB sockets, not all are equal.

All trouble seems to start with W7 32 bits; Bm has W64 bits and not heard him crying yet....thinking of buying new simple laptop with W64 Home premium for these affairs only: life is too short even if expensive.....

Yes all win7 64 here. 3 PCs. Fiddly to make work but once working foolproof. Almost every combination of serial port number, and the right driver (the one supplied) and making sure that windows is actually USING it, worked in all cases.

IF your running Windows 7 it should be a case of simply plugging the adaptor in...Windows will then connect to the net and find the FTDI Drivers needed.

With the Adaptor plugged in ..look at .. Devices and Printers ..is there ANYTHING where my pic shows UART BRIDGE COM 5 ( This is just an EXAMPLE ) I'm hoping yours will say Serial Port COM1 or something similar.

I kept seeing those messages too. There may have been a different reason for mine but don't forget - you WILL see "unable to open comms port" and "COMMS INACTIVE" until the chair is connected and turned on !

I can still see those messages if I don't plug the chair in and switch it on, even though I know it works now ;) Just thought I'd mention that, in case ....

Regards

Ashley

We need to tell the Programmer that COMS number.
Open the PGDT Programmer..IGNORE ..the cannot open serial port message.

Click on Tools ..then Comms.

Then pick the COMS number.

Tick the correct COMS number...the one you saw in Device and Printers.

Close the programmer software and restart ..there shouldn't be any warnings . ..you're now ready to plug into your joystick pod... COMS ACTIVE should appear if your chair is turned ON.

Giordano,

Let's just step it thru slowly.

Your USB Adaptor seems to installed itself correctly ... so that's DONE
You know the COM port number that it's been given YES ? ... then tell me it's number COM ??.

NOTE that it's only going to appear in "Devices and Printers" if the USB Adaptor is plugged in.
