Powered folding ramp question.

Postby Alexlebrit » 28 Aug 2014, 08:08

Apologies, this isn't about adapted road vehicles, but it's related, it's about adapted boats.

My wife and I have decided to live the dream, and buy the houseboat we've always wanted. She'll be a 66'x12' canal boat, with a wheelhouse and internal lift. As my wife is increasingly dependent on her power chair we'll obviously have ramps to get on and off the boat. We've looked at all manner of folding/telescopic portable ramps and also at the boat builders previous pulley-based efforts, but while we're still in the planning stage we also want to look at more automated systems.

The question is, does anyone know where you can contact the ramp manufacturers directly? Or at least have their names? I can find plenty of adapted vehicles builders, some of whom have said they'd help, but it makes the chain much longer with me speaking to the supplier who then has to talk to their suppliers who talk to the manufacturers. It would be so much easier, and possibly cheaper to be able to speak to the manufacturers themselves.

Can anyone help with names? Does anyone have any recommendations or tales of woe?

Hello Alex, have you try to search on Nederland's websites ?

They like boating as English people and they are also very very concerned by disability.

If it's just a folding ramp for on and off, contact a local mechanic. I'm sure one can be made to your needs cheaper and easier than someone "in the industry".
