Zinger chair ready to launch

Postby scootntootn » 23 Sep 2014, 16:36

I just came across this looking for something else. Lightweight foldable power chair. 38 pounds with battery. Looks like it's about to launch. No idea of price. Not an alternative for Travelscoot for those weighing more (250 pound limit).

Well it might be ok in shopping centres if you can also walk a bit. As long as you don't buy anything. Because you need both hands to steer... And no lateral body stability. I would fall out. I think the scoot is still better as a portable short range/shopping device.

Travelscoot looks like a trike. The cool factor is much higher. I admit that's a factor for me...

Seating and posture isn't much different from my manual chair... Ditto the loss of use of arms while rolling - it looks like you have one motor that is driving a friction roller over each drive wheel, with the levers acting as a clutch. So no tank steering, and should get decent life out of the battery.

I wouldn't want one, but I will give them credit for a clever design. IMHO it's less clunky than a scooter since you get rid of all the tiller and other front end crap, and no worse than a manual chair... No good on rough ground, but lots of other devices have the same problem.

For those who are most concerned about being able to stick it in the back of a car, or otherwise transport it I'd say it definitely is worth considering...

Also for the lateral stability - I think I saw arms on some of the chairs in the picture, and they should be addable if not there already. I took the arms OFF my manual once I got used to it... And if one is hanging onto the two drive levers, that will be pretty decent bracing.

The Zinger (according to the advert) weighs as much as the Travel Scoot does assembled. I fold Scoot for each transport. This is an interesting & inovative product but I agree that any shopping would need to be slung somehow... perhaps behind the seat. (I don't typically get off Scoot while shopping.

The other option, and the one that I use most places, is to use one of the plastic hand baskets most places have for quick shoppers, and carry it in your lap. Easy in a power chair where you have one hand to hold onto the basket and keep it from falling, but on the zinger (or any other manual) I'd consider making a simple strap (piece of string) to go around my chest or belt and do the same thing...

There's a thread on that (but your link is new) in another subforum. This thread is about an unrelated lightweight electric wheelchair.

All that electronics, yet they still have an evil over correcting delayed steering badly programmed controller. At 1.52 ...
