Jazzy 600 XL

Postby masher » 19 Dec 2014, 15:52

I've been searching around the site and the F55s looks to be a good starting place for a diy chair for learning the various mods and upgrades. Only problem is they aren't available in the US, right? The other thing I'm seeing is most of the chairs sold in the US are junk. So, I found this Jazzy on Craigslist for around $250.

This chair is for my aging mother who has trouble walking due to meds. This chair will mainly be used inside. When it goes outside it will be on asphalt or concrete for the most part. However, the terrain is somewhat hilly (not much flat ground). At present she will not be totally dependent on this chair although I suspect that may be the case soon.

Being as the F55 is hard to come by here, what chairs would be an acceptable starting place? Should I go for the Jazzy? I used to be a mechanic and I now do web development. I also have some electronics experience.

Thanks,
Mike

Try to find a Quickie 626,636 or 646. They're are reliable, easy to work on and find parts for.

Thanks for the reply. There's a 2011 Quickie Pulse 6 available for probably around $350. It has very little use. Is that model worth looking at?

At that price maybe. Depends what you are after.

Besides what's already been stated I'm looking for something that I can get parts for, program myself and not an extreme case of poor design.

Thanks

Parts? Dunno. Program? Depends what the control system is. There are a few different ones used. General design? Does she want centre drive? If so probably ok. It will never be a "hotrod". Motors? 2 or 4 pole? Does she need power, speed, torque? Is she heavy, likely to be an aggressive user?

I believe the controller is a VR2. She has never used a power chair so doesn't know what center drive is. She is average size, maybe 150 lbs. No special needs as far as power/torque/speed, and not likely to be an aggressive user. I don't have any expectations of turning it into a hotrod.

Thanks

Probably OK then. VR2 can easily be re-programmed. See the thread on cables and programmers. Then it may not have a lot of power but will at least steer properly.
