PINNED - Info on PROGRAMMING PGDT and others

The most recent programming lead that I'm using is giving ME no trouble at all...... I just add a resistor and a diode.
It's based on the FTDI 232RL chip ...so no problems with drivers & no other settings apart from noting the installed COM Port number ..... for ME it is plug and play.

I've supplied 2 of these "NEW" leads and they've caused no hassle.

This is how I mod the present FTDI chip based cable
1N4148 diode and resistor ... the resistor value that I use is 47k ... I've seen other schemes with 10k ...and the pic shows 3k

Hi Woody,

Would this be the type of cable that I got recently? If so, what driver do you think I should use for Windows 7 64 bit Home version? I have the 3.2.0.0 driver installed but it won't work, although the other cable I got from you last Spring works fine with this driver. Thanks in advance for any information

No ..that lead ... prolific chip ...is the one that sometimes gives trouble.

Some makes / models never work ... but all mine are tested before I send... so all I can say is it worked for me.

Should you wish to return it ..feel free.

All I can suggest is trying various drivers via the Control panel ... the one suggested as being GOOD is the 3.2.0.0 version ...but you could try others.

Only 3.2.0.0 works for me...

DELETE the others out of windows or it will never work...

Are you plugging it in at the back of your pc or a front one?

It should be one of the USB ports at the back coming off the mother board. The USB socket that are at the front
of the case are not fully wired up. This is what I did in windows 7 64bit

Plugged the lead into the back USB port, the light came on and I left it for a min.
Windows went up to the net and installed the drivers I needed.
Then I had my chair off and put the plug in then turned the chair on.

Also pick another USB port at the back if you get problems.

I did try different USB ports but still no action. My other cable works fine from any of the side ports, but the Comms are different, which I just change in the PGDT software; no problems on my win 7 and XP machines.

You have to plug the none working lead in the BACK usb ports. Another help page http://support.microsoft.com/kb/817900

You must be logged in as the Admin or your windows 7 account must be at admin level.

Click on the Start menu and type devmgmt.msc then hit Enter. This will bring device manager up
so when you plug in the cable you will be able to see what's going on.

That will stop it... The ONLY version that works on my laptop and desktops is 3.2.0.0. And once you install a newer version its hells own job to stop windows reinstalling the newer one instead. You must delete these from the system. Reboot and start again.

For what its worth there may be good or bad USB sockets (hubs are usually bad) at the front or the back. Try all of them. And all ports from 1 to 8 with each. Reboot each time.

As I've said, I'm using the new version on the awesome cable. I plugged it in, windows went off and installed different drivers and it worked.
That's how it should be. And only use a hub if it's got it's own power.

I'll plug mine in later and see what drivers windows installed.

Could be that the very newest drivers also work. I haven't tested them for some years. Allowing windows to auto update used to kill it. As might the next update... It does the same to my graphics card too. Best to use whatever revision works best.

I don't allow windows to auto install anything. Learned how many problems that causes the hard way far too many times.

This lead has an extra extension ... nothing special inside just cross over wires...it allows the std wheelchair programming lead with Neutrik / XLR plug to be used with the scooter controllers.

The drawing is how I make my leads.... the photo simply shows a wheelchair programming lead with an additional adaptor for the S-drive.

Seriously, if you want to drive hundreds of miles I could. Is your controller OVAL shaped, not to get too technical...
And do you have 2 or 4 pole motors?

If you don't know about motors ask your "engineer" to help!

WoodyGB will probably make you a lead. But you will need a person with a computer to change your settings. This is a much easier option! And cheaper.

Need to check the motors and the controller is oval yes, will post pics later, think it maybe easier.
If Woody could make me a lead that would be fab, could I then post out to you to reprogram or bring it over? You're not that far and if you'd be willing to do it, I would be willing to make the journey. I only have access to my parents Mac (my windows pic is being sent off for repair) and they are a bit funny about putting unknown programs into it.

You cant use a mac.

I don't need a lead. That is if you wanted to do it yourself. And you should. Because while I can do a quick job here, you will want to fine tune it for yourself over a few weeks or so. And its easy. The software is safe! And simple. Find a 13 year old with a laptop.

But I can do it here for you with a hand held programmer if you want.

Yep, knowledge is power, shame I don't have that knowledge virus ate away at it, lost everything (I did have anti virus software), it's having to go to manufacturers to be, basically, rebuilt.
