It's based on the FTDI 232RL chip ...so no problems with drivers & no other settings apart from noting the installed COM Port number ..... for ME it is plug and play.
I've supplied 2 of these "NEW" leads and they've caused no hassle.

That will stop it... The ONLY version that works on my laptop and desktops is 3.2.0.0. And once you install a newer version its hells own job to stop windows reinstalling the newer one instead. You must delete these from the system. Reboot and start again.
For what its worth there may be good or bad USB sockets (hubs are usually bad) at the front or the back. Try all of them. And all ports from 1 to 8 with each. Reboot each time.
