The disabled users MOWER thread!

Postby Burgerman » 08 Jul 2015, 18:19

OK started a new thread because I got sick of paying someone for cutting my grass.

There are pretty good mowers out there that can do this robotically, and the work quite well. I decided to buy one, and test it from a paraplegics or other disabled users perspective to see if it is worth the trouble or money. They are not cheap. In my case it doesn't matter because the website will pay for it since this is the main objective. A test. And an eventual write up.

So after a lot of reading I bought the cheapest mainstream one that should be reliable.
Here: https://www.worxlandroid.com/en-GB Cost me £730.

And it will still need a strimmer around the edges. It should do everything else by itself, and then go back to its charging station all by itself ready for the next day. Saving me time and money. Grass should always look perfect.

Why that one?
- Its physically small, and I have a small garden with lots of trees and obstacles.
- And because its quiet.
- cheap(er)
- 3 year warranty.
- And because it looks easy to modify. They don't easily get to the edges like next to fences or walls, etc. And I have a plan.

But I have another idea. I may leave that mower to do the main area, and not modify it.

I am going to build a tiny version that is radio Controlled. Or also automated/robotic. Or both. That CAN get to all the edges and between the trees and plants.

With this in mind I ordered this basic cheap base: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4WD-Robot-Sma ... 1470497176

This is small, small enough to get into the gaps. It will have a blade or strimmer in front of it to strim the grass where the robotic mower cant get in to do.
I will document the build.

And...

http://www.ardumower.de/index.php/en/
The shop sells everything to build a fully automonous mower. But I cant build one because I have no idea what/how all that arduino stuff is/works/programs etc...

DIY here
http://www.mowbot.nl/Mowing/New_UDO_5/E ... udo_5.html and this does edge to edge...

Much thinking going on here.

Good! I think so too. I actually got the idea grom my server logs. Always find people searching for RC mower or auto mower.
Mines on the way, (the one I bought)...

The home built strimmer/mower about 8 inches long/wide will be under construction soon! To fill in the gaps/edges.

Borrow some sheep. Trimed and fertilized at the same time.

I could adapt a ride on mower and cut it myself, but I cut so much grass when I was young that I don't miss that task one bit. And, as stated, it's an significant expense. Snow is another burden.

Also interested, though I'd probably be more interested in larger size, as our yard is larger...

Snow blowing would be even more interesting, but has a LOT more challenges...

Don't be worried about the Arduino stuff, as it is far easier than what you are doing with the Roboteq...
