S646se - Full LITHIUM Pack Project - First Attempt

Goal - make a full chair - lets shoot for the full 105Ah pack - 15ah 40152S Cells - but if i feel its too close for my comfort in the chair etc, - i can then leave it at the 90ah pack and leave off the extra 8 on top - No BMS this time

1. 58 15ah Cells - with the free buss bar and orange blocks -
2. 35 4 hole buss bars
3. 10 extra orange blocks ? or more ?

Yes. Looking good for the EV order.

The 8 cells will sit flat on the top. You will make up connectors using 8 AWG wire to connect it to the larger pack. Four of the connectors will be longer to run to the bottom of the pack. That will connect to the 1,3,5,7 busbars. Then 5 short connectors to connect to the 0,2,4,6,8 busbars on the top of the big pack. Once you see it, it will make more sense.

Ok - but thats a concern those 8 cables that go to the bottom - if i have to use the 8AWG wire i have - its hard to bend etc, - not like silicone flex etc, - the pack itself will sit in my battery tray which i believe will be just the right fit -
i guess i have to see how it would fit - the wire going down to the bottom of the pack -

if i am correct - the ADD on we just made - i would really be making 3 of those - with all the blocks connected as one big pack - the 2 hole buss bars would go down the sides connected to each other overlapping on one screw - the 4 hole buss bars would be the same way - just follow the first pack and extend down - and those numbers i put on the pack - they would be the same for the rest of the pack - for example

0 is first - then the rest of the pack extended down - on the 0 line is all 0 - etc,

if i had to connect a wire on 0 at the beginning of the pack - i can if i wanted to use the same 0 line but further down the pack at the other end ? and its the same for the rest ? so the main power cables going to my chair can be connected on the end of the pack - and the charge balance cable can be connected in the front of the pack opposite the cable going to the chair - balance wires can all be the same way i did the ADD on - all on one side of the pack - ?

Yes, you basically got it. You might need to get a more flexible 8 AWG. You can get silicone 8 AWG wire.

Yes i seen it - but didnt get it - didnt think i needed it - i guess i get some of that also - i am going to have so much cable when i am done -

i think i got either 60 or 80 fuse for it

which ever is easier to do i think its the AGU type -

Acutally - i already have a direct cable on that chair for charging with anderson connector - it has a 30 amp fuse in line - i can just reuse that cable again - chances are i wont even use it -

on the chair side of the combo cable for charging - i would need a fuse there also - or would the fuse that is build in the cable on the charger end - wont that be enough ?

You don't need 8awg wire for a 15ah cell, do you?
12awg is enough, and you need them on the 2 ends only, ie 0 and 8.

The others , 1 - - - - 7 , are there for equalization only, so 16awg or less would be enough.

yes i will use the 12 awg for the cable to charge power etc, -

the 8 AWG is for the extra cells on top of the pack if i add them - to connect to the pack - and also i can use the 8 AWG to connect to the chairs main power

You still don't get it.
Thick wire on a relatively small add on has no advantage. My 2 cents.

i think we got confused a bit -

this is not about the ADD ON pack now - its about the whole chair - i will be using the 15ah Cells to make a 105ah pack if it fits good enough in the chair

in doing so - i will end up with 8 Cells sideways on top of the 90ah pack - and the 8 AWG is for connecting those 8 Cells to the Pack under it in the chair -

or maybe i am missing something here - thats a good chance also

you want to know how much it would cost to visit NYC - and find a hotel thats accessible etc, ?

i would think its not cheap but i never though about it - i can ask my friend - she may know more than me - i can say for one thing - everyones needs are different so what they consider to be accessible - it may not be for you or me lets say - i find that many places do the Min. to meet the standard - which means nothing to me

i never understood the grab bars they put behind the toilet on the wall - no purpose i can think of - its on the wall behind the toilet you sit on facing away from it -

i refused mines when they came to my apt. to put it -

I will ask a few people - that know better than me - i have a Walk shower and thats the hard part - i am sure some may have - but i think most are normal tub with grab bars - or shower chairs maybe - i am sure accessible door way and elevator for sure - that can be found - its the shower bathroom thats more a problem - if in NYC - its expensive also - i dont know prices - never used them before - i see what i can find out - just a ball park figure - but if you ever decide to travel here -

make sure with your travel agent - everything you will need and then call yourself the place they pick for you etc, - only you know best what you need

And if you need a hoist, there's very few hotels that has these in the UK. Luckily I can manage without one since my Mum and Carer helps me on the toilet.

yes thats a problem for me also - all they do is have a grab bar and raised toilet seat and thing thats all everyone needs - and they dont realize that to us who cant get up on our own - toilets are so low on the ground - its like sitting on the floor when you are used to sitting higher up - unless you have strength upper body to help yourself - its hard -


Well going to have to wait to get the Cells ordered now - i can order them - but Shipping is not working till Feb. 16 - for the New years - i was told just now - nothing will ship till after Feb. 15 - and i am sure they will be backed up once they start shipping again -

Many hotels in NYC have accessible rooms, depends where you want to stay and dates, e.g. 1 night in April
Hilton Doubletree Suites on Times Sq, as central as you can get, was $369/night per room.

The cables at the front look a little vulnerable/short.
Be better all around if you were to bolt an anderson connector or two, to the case and use that instead.
Also, bit of a nusance having to disconnect the charger every time you switch it on.

Also, remember this. With any charger really. The Hyperion and the PL8 chargers should both be powered up before you connect up to the powerchair...


I dont always bother to do that personally but it is the safe way. No blown chargers if you do that...

yes i agree - a bit short - i will have it plugged in the power strip with switches to turn on and off - so that not a big problem - my understanding is i turn the power on the PSU first -

then plug in the charger and turn it on ? i cant turn the charger on unless it has power already ? if those wires were longer - i would feel better about adding the anderson to them - but since they are not - i will use the Charge cable i ordered for it - and leave that connected to it - so i wont have to push and pull the plugs on the PSU end all the time - i can just disconnect the other end EC5 which goes in the Charger -

its a nice size - not over huge - funny thing is this - the seller told me the distrubutor for this is FMA Direct - i didnt make anything of it - when i asked about a charge cable etc,

then i got my invoice for the PL8 i ordered today - from Revo usa site - and guess what - its them - FMA Direct - this PSU is coming from FMA Direct - they dont sell it on there site Revo USA etc, - the seller on Ebay gets them from FMA Direct - he told me to check with them on Ebay for a charge cable -

i already ordered one from another site already - 10 AWG wire - also - so well see how it works out - looks great in person

When charging chairs in general - lead or what ever - the charger should always be on first before plugging it in the chair ?

i always felt the other way was the safe way - i never done it that way - i always plugged charger in the chair and then turned on my charger -

maybe thats why there are no ON and OFF switches on most chargers ? my Salmex dosnt have a switch either - but the other 20 amp model different brand does have a On and OFF Switch -

I don't know if this is right or wrong... How I do it...

My Hyperion stays connected to my power supply... power supply is plugged into a switched power strip. I do have a 50A Anderson connector between the Hyperion & PS in case I ever decide to charge from a different source. My charge lead positive has a fuse which I hope to never need.

Since I have separate balance & charge leads... I plug both them into the pack first. Then I turn on the power strip, the power supply comes up, activates the Hyperion charger. The charger recognizes my pack cell count. I press button to start charge sequence. The Hyperion beeps when I'm done charging.

When I'm done charging, I shut off power strip, PS shuts down, Hyperion shuts down. I disconnect charge leads from the pack carefully. Good to go.

Oh i never though about adding a fuse in the line between the PSU and the PL8 - is that something i must do ? the charge leads are fused already coming out of the PL8

i figured its done already - now shirley got me thinking if i should really consider adding another 8 - - i hate to have to get a bigger bag to carry it in then -
