Just found an old parallel port dongle for Dynamic. Will this still work with the latest stuff today?

I realise I will need some way of connecting it to a machine with no parallel port... Is there one? Is it this easy? What about connecting to the chair (DX2 for eg).

Even an old dongle will still work. You also will need the appropriate programming cable to either mate to the separate programming port on some controllers, or with an adapter, to the charger port on some others. It can be RS232 or, with another adapter, USB. Probably the easiest way to go is to find an old laptop with RS232 and Centronics ports. Used just for Dynamic software, even old, and crappy, Windows OS will be fine.

Maybe. But old laptops offend my sensibilities! I want to make it work from my current laptop or PC. If need be I can add a card with parallel port.

The joystick appears to be a ACS2 ...
This pdf suggests you that need a DWIZ-ADAPT.

The XLR programming / charger socket is located at the front of the ACS2. To use this
socket with the HHP or the PC-Wizard programming cable, a DWIZ-ADAPT adapter
plug is needed.

A dongle-less alternative exists.

I have the DWIZ-ADAPT ( Genuine ) ...
The DWIZ outputs a std serial signal.... So you should just need the addition of a cheap USB-SERIAL LEAD.

I haven't a clue what an ORANGE DWIZ-ADAPT is...?

The DWIZ-ADAPT simply converts the weird / Non standard signal that comes from the XLR of the pod to a normal serial output that can be easily read by almost any cheap USB-SERIAL cable.

So COMS can be easily sorted....

HOWEVER.

The STANDARD Dynamic Wizard program uses HASP encryption and looks for a Dongle .... if one isn't present it will not allow communication to take place and thus you cannot then program the controller/pod.
