Hello Burgerman,

About PowerChair Programming, can this be done with Permobil X850? If so do you know what equipment needed?
I want to adjust the speed from 5.5 mph --> whatever :p

BTW Interesting website you have.

Thanks in advance.

It can be reprogrammed yes. It can be made to steer much more accurately, accelerate faster, have more torque / power possibly. It would be much more usable by many people. Its top speed will almost definitely be limited by its gear ratio though which you cant change. Unless for some reason it has been reduced from 100 percent by someone in the past.

Faster than you already go means taller gearing, bigger motors, bigger control system (amps) all of which needs bigger batteries! And a bigger wallet. And the way powerchair manufacturers build chairs means a wider / bigger chair usually too...

Having said that their site says its limited to 5.5 for under 16s. So it MAY be possible to turn the speed up to 9mph just by programming. As long as they didnt change motors etc when it was slowed down for minors.

What make / model is the control system? Their site doesent say. Although permobil usually use P and G stuff even if its rebranded. Dunno about this one though...

Hello,

Thanks for the quick reply. I am not sure what control system it is  i am just an regaler user of the wheelchair. I can check the specification on it if it says anything in my papirers.
Is it ok that i can mail you some pictures of it if i don`t find any? Maybe you know the system. I think the only reason its 5.5 mph is that is not allowed to go faster hehe. (I can almost go faster with the Manual chair)

Sorry the bad Eng.. I am from Norway.

Yes. The photos may help but it looks "bespoke" so dont really know if they will help. The manufacturer will have a programmer as will the people that sell / service them.

And its true speed should be 9mph so it may well be possible to easily increase speed to that if they reduced it JUST by programming. My gut feeling is that will be the case since more work/development would be needed to do it with gearing. If you can persuade the safety nazi powerchair companies to let you reprogram it that is...

So Qtronics controllers are just rebadged P and G VR2 controllers?
So my OEM software would do it.
Wonder where he is...

That programmer is a PP1b - not sure it does anything but Pilot plus stuff? The programmer I meant was the PC based OEM level one. It should do all the P and G stuff apart from R-Net and onwards.

But I dont recognise that joystick...

PP1 a and b both go into the charge socket...

When you say controller do you mean the joystick pod or do you mean the actual controller under the seat?

There are at least two types of PP1 programmer.

PP1a (dealer / user) and PP1b (I have) and possibly OEM as well.

It never says which they are... They should all adjust top speed. PP1b and OEM have a multitude of other settings that are very helpful.

Provided there is no firmware difference they should both work. I would ask which version it is and buy the best one. If there is then only the first one should work...

Have a read. Theres a bit more to it than that. And probably a lot more you can do to make it more controllable.
