Hello from Denmark

Postby Speed66tempo » 20 Jan 2016, 20:53

My name is Stephen. I am in the midst forty’s and live in the country side. In my spare time I tinker with all things mechanical and electronic.
My wife loves garden work, but suffers from a bad back, so to help her I built an electric garden tractor, with parts from a scraped mobility scooter and a broken lawn tractor. I think the motor controller needs to be adjusted somewhat to work optimal in the new application, and hope to find some inspiration and help in this forum.

I think you will struggle with 5 people and grass, and a mobility scooter controller/motor. Its like fitting a lawnmower engine in your car.

But there's a thread on programming pinned at the top of the forum which may help.

Thanks! I will study the programming thread to night.
My main problem is not pulling power, it is breaking too hard when the throttle is released.
It actually has amazing pulling power, i can pull a 600 Kg. caravan on flat grass.
However the unloaded speed is about 7 Km/h, so I expect the gearing is lower than normal for a mobility scooter.
(I know it is difficult to see in the picture, but there are seven kids along for the ride ;) )

If you purchase one of woodys cables then it can be reprogrammed. Check PM for details.

I am amazed its got adequate power though. And will roll back and reduce power further if worked hard.

He has. 4mph. Even so. Its less powerful than most powerchair controllers. And 7 passengers + driver!

The garden slopes quite a bit, so the pulling power is more important than speed. and the automatic break is very convenient.
This is actually still the prototype, but ever since it was "released for testing" it has been in use almost daily :)

I don't understand why there aren't more small electric vehicles on the marked, it seams the standard solution is to use a B&S engine. If the electric solution were more popular, maybe it would become cheaper as well, certainly it is more convenient, quieter, easer to operate and les poluting.
Just my opinion anyway.

The reason is simple. Lead batteries are to be blunt, crap! They cant really do much more than a brisk walking pace for a couple of hours.

If you add more lead batteries they then have to drag their own weight around and it becomes self defeating. And they last well under a year in hard EV service. And only the best deep cycle are suitable and they are really not cheap.

Lithium changed all that. Thats why we now have lithium cars, bikes, etc. And my powerchairs... http://www.wheelchairdriver.com/BM-MK3- ... rchair.htm
