Burgerman wrote:They are strong as in you can bounce them. Unlike our normal metal cased chargers. Because the heavy components that break free or damage circuit boards like transformers etc are not in the charger. They are designed portable and robust to take to your flying field and drop and stand on. And electrically they are fool proof. They are used by thousands of dummies all over the world that short them out and mis connect them. Short and reverse polarity etc cant hurt them. A shower wont hurt either but they are not waterproof!
Burgerman wrote:There are several new ones.
The newest one out in november needs a 550 watt power supply at 24v which is very hard to find. I just bought one... It will work though.
But its better to buy a 20 amp 24v version of the one I linked to above. Or you wont be able to use full power. They are also on ebay at twice the price nearly... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DC-Power-Reyed-48 ... 27a99a28b1
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/480W-24V-20A-Regu ... 2c5795abdc cheaper
Then soon after a dual version is out! It needs a 24v 1000 watt supply! Or two 12v 20A power supplies as above in series... Or a pair of old powerchair batteries and small charger. Things get out of hand if you get too carried away...
Or you could buy one of these as I just have! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... SA:GB:1123 40 amps at 30v adjustable...

From a 12v supply both are the same power. You need a cheap (or good if you want) 24v power supply. This gives you the full 20 amp charge rate at 24v.
Its max output is 20 amps. Doesent matter if into 12v or 24v. (or 1,2v if you are charging 1 nicad!)... And its max wattage at higher outputs needs 24v.
So you can either use a car, (or a pair of very old gel batteries and a very cheap 12v power supply to use to charge them?) or a good bench power supply such as the one I got cheap on ebay.
But most people use one of these for use at home http://cgi.ebay.com/24V-20A-Power-Suppl ... 27b6d759a7
It is almost perfect and should only limit you by a couple of amps. And cheap. I have one and its reliable and solid.

Burgerman wrote:Its a 40 amp power supply. Adjustable for amps and volts maximum. If I set it to 29.4v for odyssey AGM and 40 amps it does a perfect CC/CV charge. It stays at 40 amps solid for anything from a few mins to 15 mins or more depending on discharge level, cable length (big difference!) and gauge etc. But my van charges at 100 exactly. There it is only at 100 for 3 to 5 mins and then it starts to fall away as it charges.
