i havnt tried the windows one i made - and the Rufus that steve posted - thats the same way mines was when i used it also -

there is some way to get it to boot i am sure - its just not simple and clear in the bios -

in the bios - UEFI - i have it first in line to boot from - then CD rom and then HD -

anyway - i put the CD ROM to boot from - since it has one - and Made a disk with Your Imagine -

i also have the Windows on the usb - - i doubt it will just boot on my unit -

well see soon - Ram today - SSD tomorrow -

Why cant you boot from mem stick. You need to make sure its formatted fat 32, and EFI system, etc. The windows tool does this for you. As does the other sergey thing.

And then tell it to boot from the right type of system, and the right device which your bios will see.

Then boot... Dont say it doesn't work, it does! If done correctly. Been this way for a decade. And yes you can also do it from a dvd if it too is made bootable. If you are still using antique devices.

maybe thats it - when i used Rufus - its NTSF system - i will redo it Fat 32 in case i need to try it

It won't allow you to select FAT32 for a Windows ISO file, instead click on the small blue arrow near the format options and select the BIOS fixes option which creates an additional small FAT12 partition which allows older BIOSes to boot from USB. Try it!

i just redid it - it went with fat 32 - i clicked the other options for MBR For UEFI system instead of the default which i did the first time - the same as the pic you posted - that didnt work for me -

i will try this tonight and see after i charge my chair first -

Oh dear. Its so easy when you can do it yourself! What are you trying to achieve?

You cant put a iso bigger than 4gb on a fat 32 partition... And why are you trying to do that anyway? I dont get it.

i recall you said it has to be formatted in Fat 32 -

i done it the way steve did - the picture he posted Rufus - those settings were the same that was used - i didnt get that to boot -

so i figure i try a different way - at this point i dont think i am trying to do anything other than to figure out if i can get my laptop HP 15 to boot from usb for future use maybe - it has a CD rom so this may be all a waste of time for me on this HP - in the future newer laptop wont get CD Rom - maybe get an external usb version - just for certain times like this one -

or else i would rather use usb to do things easier -

i should find out soon enough - in next few days how this turns out :D

YOU STILL HAVE NOT SAID...

When you buy a laptop without a DVD you have windows on a hidden restore partition. Wasting pace. And a "recovery" USB stick.
When you buy the same laptop without that, you get a USB stick with full windows setup (win10 32/64) on it.
When you go to that link I posted it MAKES YOU THAT USB STICK!!! Its ALL YOU NEED.

You do not need rufus, or anything else. Thats just for those that know what they are doing and why!!! Its not required here. It is included in that sergy ISO as it allows you to make a bootable rescue disk loaded with software and disk utilities.

Ok - i used the USB for the Microsoft link - so that should be fine then - i wanted to install the copy of windows from the other link you posted -

i have it DVD so i can try that one first - you said it has alot of Free things etc, extras

got the memory - tomorrow the SSD - and the fun begins taking this thing apart

today you buy a laptop etc, you dont get anything on CD DVD or USB anymore - you may be able to get it for a extra fee - its not free and its not given to you when you buy and new laptop -

Yes that will install brand new windows.

That ISNT a copy of windows!!!
Its a BOOTABLE disk, from a USB stick. And it contains a load of useful stuff that helps technical guys with loads of disk related stuff, and allows you to do so from a windows portable USB type boot device.

Your computer boots from it, and runs from it. Its tools and configuration are genius. If you are a nerd its essential.

You're getting confused again expresso, you cannot install the Win10PE ISO BM posted! You run it from DVD or USB, it's not installable! :?

Yes you do. Its all stored on a hidden partition. Wasting your disk. Those that understand computers dont need it anyway. So get rid, or move it to a storage disk, and have a clean SSD. And do proper backups instead or install windows fresh, clean from the link I gave you. Now to do all that the other "windows" boot disk with its utilities is really valuable!!! It has the tools.

Ok - i will see how this ends up - i have the USB which i did from the microsoft link - that should work -

whats confusing me - is the Rufus link you posted which i down loaded - that had a ISO imgaine of Win 10 in there ?

i assumed i had to use that ISO with the Rufus program on a USB - and that would install it on my computer -

now your saying thats NOT a Win 10 ISO to use with a Rufus bootable USB ?

i burned that ISO to a DVD - was going to use that to install it -

one way or another i get it done - maybe not be the correct way - but it get down - i am not that nerdy to know all the stuff you and Steve know and do etc,

i will just install a clean copy - i have other Clean fresh Win 10 disks - so one of them will work if the microsoft usb dosnt -

the biggest problem is not breaking this thing while i replace the drive -- if i manage to put it back together in one piece - i get windows on it one way or another

now about hidding partitions windows makes during set up etc, - i am not going to stress that - its very little space it uses if it does that - talking about MB space -

with HP or Dell etc, they have the recovery build in - that takes up space - Gigs of it - and its useful for alot of people also - i dont care for it - never used it - but never bothered to remove it either

when i do a fresh install - i make a imagine - and build from there - add my programs - updates etc, and make another imagine - works best this way -

No it doesn't!!! Its an ISO that lives on the memory stick. A cut down version of windows designed to boot your computer and give a friendly interface to use all the disk and repair/backup tools inside that ISO all ready to go. Its a version of Win10 PE (pre install environment)
i assumed i had to use that ISO with the Rufus program on a USB - and that would install it on my computer -

Nope!!!
now your saying thats NOT a Win 10 ISO to use with a Rufus bootable USB ?

Slowly I think its soaking in!!!

How were you going to do that exactly?

Put that stick into your PC and tell the bios to boot from it. Or your laptop. Then you will see what it actually is!!!

you keep banging your head that way - you may hurt yourself

i was always under the impression that the ISO was a Win 10 installation -

its a set of tools to get access to for a bunch of things you guys like to play with - now i get it - for me thats not needed at all - at least not now -

after i am done and stable fresh imagine - i can play around with it and not worry about it - after the imagine is made -

ok so the only win 10 i have now is on the USB and an older copy of Win 10 that i believe i got from you steve - its a year old version

Try disabling Secure Boot in BIOS if your laptop has that option, then you should be able to boot from USB.

i am not going to bother with this booting from the USB from the laptop - i tried for two days - in the bios is very limited - instead of me going crazy

i just did it in 3 sec. with the DVD i had - its all done - i am just getting my programs on and adjusting a few things - i am sure i am forgetting some - but its a fresh copy now - its activated - no problems - -

running spybot now and when all done - make a few imagines - with both programs - AEOMI since i am use to that one and the reflect just to see which i will continue to use later on

AND yes - in disk management Windows did its own thing and made partitions for recovery - etc, etc, - i am not stressing it - - its not a big deal - HD space is very cheap -
not worried if some HD space is used -

i can delete it if i wanted - and merge it also - but who knows if i may actually make use of it some day or need it - gives me a option -

will make the imagine - waiting on the cable to connect SSD to USB and Clone it - - then start to take it apart

i understand you guys are all techy and want perfection etc, - but its not a big deal - and my was was MUCH easier for ME -- what ever the issue is with the USB Boot i am not even worried about it on the laptop - or desktop

have dvd drives so not a big deal - i would still like to figure that out - will do on desktop - i dont like laptops - i just want them to work - i could have been done days ago if i just used my disk from the start - :D

Lenny - BM thanks for those links -

i had a USB made with the windows from microsoft i was all set with it - my laptop bios dosnt have those options - i dont see them if they are there somewhere

i set the boot options to boot from USB etc and it didnt work - they make it so hard - it should just ask what want to boot from and i pick it and thats it

so that was a waste for me - i did it with a dvd disk i had ready - i knew it was going to be used sooner or later

the microsoft it made on the memory stick didnt work either to boot from - its my computer - the bios its tricky - - i just used my DVD disk - worked fine - its all done - i updated it fully and added my programs - i make a few imagines -

i Cloned the SSD already - i am ready to take it apart and install everything - maybe tonight or early next week - i got a bit busy all of a sudden - my sisters computer - the new one i got her - havnt had a chance to get the cable going yet -

its sitting there for weeks - shes busy and i have to work around her time - - nothing wrong with hers - its all new - just have to connect the modem - and get the internet going - - then later i get her a wireless router -

if you search boot from usb on HP 15 laptop - you will find many many people same issue - the solutions they get - some work and some times it dont - its not a big deal - i am not stressing it - if i get it to boot one day fine - if not - its ok

i will try one day to see if i can do it on my desktop - i never tried with that either - since i have DVD drives and always had disks - yes i am stuck in the flintstone age :) but it works - thats all that matters in the end
