PERFORMANCE AND ABILITY Rearward C of G means greater control, drive wheels under your backside, wheelies at will, much like a sports manual wheelchair. Very low weight over fat 9.5 inch caster tyres. Very easy to turn and manoeuvre indoors compared to "normal" powerchairs. Ideally suited to an active Paraplegic user that is used to a lightweight sport manual wheelchair that is "tippy" and requires some skill to use.
Whilst its very EASY to just bolt a set of wide tyres like these to any powerchair, it will make it some 7 full inches wider than a stock powerchair! Doing this while keeping the width down to around 26 inches is very difficult. Which is why you will not find any built by the "real" manufacturers! They haven't figured out how yet! At home indoors, or out, in snow, sand, or with all terrain tyres in winter also in mud and some off road. And it has the battery power & speed to actually cope unlike existing powerchairs. This powerchair is narrower, shorter, lighter, faster, tighter with better more "direct" control and has better indoor capability than most commercial indoor only chairs. But is still capable outdoors as well, on sand, snow, or real world streets. More so than any other hi end power wheelchair including many off road types! With much greater range and performance and reliability thanks to its huge lightweight lithium battery. It is also fast charge capable, both in your car as you drive, as well as from the wall. Should you need it, since charging overnight every week is probably all most people will ever need! |
BUILD QUALITY It has a hugely better build quality than any mass produced power wheelchair. And a 10 to 20 year expected battery life from its lithium "heart". It is built and finished to last. With high quality engineering self aligning "rose joints" used extensively, alloy powder coated spacers and fabricated alloy components. Stainless steel corrosion proof fasteners, stainless steel axles, stainless steel "food grade" bearings so they do not corrode and fail due to water ingress as do existing powerchairs. Puncture proof tubeless Kevlar lined low pressure easy riding high floatation soft "balloon style" tyres with huge sidewalls, light alloy aircraft quality drive wheels. To allow for driving in comfort, on sand, pavements etc. Or similar sized tubeless ALL TERRAIN tyres for snow, mud, etc. Every part is hand finished, show quality powder coated or stainless steel or in the case of the aircraft quality rear wheels, polished alloy. It also has/uses easy accessible free to download PC software for data logging and programming of the controller. This can on the move via a laptop or net-book. The exact opposite from the impossible to obtain "big brother" controlled wheelchair industry programming tools! As well as comprehensive battery testing, balancing, charging control software via PC to keep track of and monitor the Lithium battery graphically and in great detail if you wish! I helped develop this charging system and charger. So I know its good!
Everything is designed and fabricated by myself here in a bedroom and put together with HUGE attention to detail and with the best possible parts. Every single part here in these pictures is either modified to use on a power wheelchair or constructed by hand. And finished to last!
See Construction detail & for more detailed build info.
Hegar Alloy tubeless rims, with 6 inch wide Kevlar lined puncture proof high floatation smooth riding "soft" low pressure rear tyres for comfort and floatation on sand / snow or soft surfaces shown here. Its also extremely short by design! Once the deep single footplate is fitted, it is still under 37 inches long in TOTAL. That's shorter than almost all "indoor only" powerchairs... Never mind the bigger better outdoor ones! /p> No footplate, or mountings yet fitted here. It uses another 12 rose joints, and two rubber anti vibration mounts for the seat front edge to provide anti vibration to the central front footplate.
Only the best GLOSS show standard hard powder coatings, stainless steel or other non corrodible materials are used on this chair. Notice the 12 inch floor tiles. This chair is still narrow even with a full 12 inches of rubber on board! Very high, short, small anti tip wheels. And 3x the power of any normal hi end powerchair means I will be able to flip myself over the back at will. The throttle goes both ways however... This chair is built for myself, to be as agile, as small, as lively, and as manoeuvrable as possible. Every fraction of an inch makes a huge difference when indoors or inside a van. Without compromising outdoor range, speed, and off road capability. All of which are far better than any other powerchair.

SPECIFICATION
Under 27 inches wide, with 6.00 inch wide tyres as shown. Under 26 inches wide with the all terrain 145/70 - 6 tyres fitted...
Ground clearance = 4+ inches. Or in fact slightly more than a Coke can!
At both ends. Less clearance than this means it will not work properly in sand, snow outdoors. Almost all other powerchairs have less ground clearance and skinnier tyres than this. |
WHAT'S THE PURPOSE OF THIS PAGE IF IF I DON'T SELL THESE POWERCHAIRS? To embarrass the manufacturers into getting with the show, and doing some real development work. And to show other wheelchair users especially Paraplegics like me, what is actually possible and to show how bad most powerchairs really are. As such there are others now building the "same" or similar, or modifying powerchairs in one way or another. Many are members of my Message board
