Breakdown Cover, like the AA
or R.A.C (or AAA if you live in the US?) and others similar organisations is essential if
you are disabled.
Trouble is they all react
differently in the event of a breakdown that they can't fix at the roadside.

For example the "AA"
that I personally now use, tell me that they will take my van home on a low
loader safely as needed and that because I am unable to leave my wheelchair they
will also take me home in a suitable vehicle be it a wheelchair accessible taxi
or a hired van! But that one way or another they will transport me home
safely. Some of the others just told me that
they could only take the vehicle, that I couldn't stay in it and they
could only take me home if I could access their crew cab...
You wouldn't want to find THAT out at 3am on a wet night in
the middle of nowhere!
So be careful who you choose they are not all the same. |
Obviously being disabled its even more important that you and
your vehicle can be recued and taken home than a normal able bodied person.
Things like an ileostomy,
medication, pressure ulcers and 101 other things will not wait!It is best to get confirmation in writing of their promises
and verbal replies, as well as getting them to make a note of your disabled
status for their own records as they will respond directly with the correct
vehicles rather than being "surprised" after they turn up.

Some also cover breakdown to your powerchair or scooter in the
deal as well.
Visit as many different providers as possible and ask them all the
difficult questions before you actually purchase cover and break down!
And don't forget to keep all the documents, membership number,
phone numbers with you whenever you leave the house or you wasted your money!
Program the emergency number into your mobile phone now before you forget. File
it under your membership number! Since they will want that first.
